Our Story
Where it started
Aarden-Hoff Blomme started the way most good gardens do — a little too enthusiastically. What began as a handful of clivia bulbs along a fence line outside Rayton slowly took over first one bed, then the next, until what had been a hobby patch was clearly something more. Neighbours started asking where they could get a plant just like the ones over the fence, and Aarden-Hoff Blomme was, more or less, born out of answering that question often enough.
What we grow
Clivias are still at the heart of what we do — their soft oranges, peaches and golds are the first thing most visitors notice, especially in the months when the rest of the garden is still waking up. Around them we grow a rotating mix of seasonal flowers suited to the Highveld climate: things that do well in a Rayton summer, and things that carry the garden through a Pretoria winter. We'd rather grow a smaller range well than a large range indifferently, so what's available changes with the season.
By appointment, on purpose
We work by appointment because Aarden-Hoff Blomme is still, at its core, a working smallholding rather than a retail shop front — the beds you'd be walking through are the same ones we're tending that day. An appointment means someone is actually there to walk you around, answer questions about what will and won't survive your particular corner of a garden, and help you choose properly rather than rushing past. Jou tuin se beste uitstappie — your garden's best day out — is meant literally: we'd like a visit here to feel like an outing, not an errand.
